About Stonehaven

Stonehaven Bay - War Memorial - CastleStonehaven is a holiday town of about 11,000 people.  It sits on the curve of a huge bay, 15 miles south of Aberdeen off the A90 and is on the main East Coast rail line.

On the hill above Stonehaven bay, standing in isolation is the temple-like ‘War Memorial’ for the fallen of two world wars.  A prominent landmark

There is an 18 hole Golf course at the north end and the old town’s harbour at the south end.

Stonehaven Harbour
The harbour area has some fine pubs and excellent restaurants, outside which you can sit out on a summer’s day.  Also down at the harbour there's the Tolbooth Museum, which tells the history of Stonehaven (Open June to October)

At the seafront, there is Scotland’s only open air heated Art Deco Olympic sized swimming pool (open June – Aug only) Leisure Centre, Bowling Green, Tennis Courts and Putting Green.

Dunnottar CastleThe Market Square and surrounding streets have a wealth of shops and pubs and restaurants.

Close by there is Dunnottar Castle, spectacularly situated on a rock promontory which has played a key role in Scottish history and a film role in Mel Gibson's ‘Hamlet’.
